Tariff codes or HS (Harmonized System) Codes are universally accepted numerical codes to categorize goods exchanged in international trade. Customs authorities around the world rely on this system to recognize products, determine applicable duties and taxes, and collect statistical data.
The Harmonized System designates different six-digit codes for different products and commodities. The initial two digits of the code represent the category of the product, while the next four digits indicate the specific subcategories to which the product belongs. Countries have the flexibility to extend these initial six digits with longer codes for more detailed classification.
